Despite the heatwave we have been experiencing here in Melbourne, it’s hard to believe that we are now in fact in Autumn. It’s a sad time of year for me as summer is my season. However, I have come to terms with the fact that cooler days are on their way and I’m ready to embrace all things autumn; along with the gorgeous colours that are popping up on runways the world over (Yay for new season fashion!).
Trawling for fresh new beauty looks after the end of my ‘barely any makeup look’ summer, I have stumbled across the most beautiful and surprisingly wearable look I’ve seen in a while. Several fashion houses have used this look in their shows of late but the one at the Dolce and Gabbana Milan A/W ’13 show really struck a beauty cord with me. I’ve coined this regal look ‘Baroque Beauty’. Heralding from a time of by-gone royals and autumn’s colour of the moment, burgundy, this look has got me immediately reaching for my wine-hued lippy and copper-toned shadow. What I doubly love about this look is that it suits anyone and everyone. Blonde, brunette, redhead, dark or fair skinned. It looks fab on us all. Crown optional.
Trust me. Give it a try yourself with this simple how-to:
1. Whether you're porcelain or olive, warm or cool skinned toned; this look does not discriminate. So work with what you’ve got and choose a matte foundation such as this Pressed Mineral Foundation and buff into skin with a Kabuki brush.
2. Next, lightly contour underneath your cheek bones with Honey Bronze Bronzer. The nifty dispensing brush makes this a breeze. Add a little more Honey Bronze under your jaw line and on your forehead along your hairline. This will give dimension to your face and killer cheekbones.
3. Taking some Copper Shimmer (for fairer skin types) or Bronze Shimmer (for darker skin types) Loose Mineral Eye Shadow, apply from lash line to just above the crease. Using a blending brush, blend well to soften lines. On top lashes only, apply 2 coats of Perfect Lash or Waterproof mascara. That’s your eyes done!
4. The clincher for this look is of course the lips. First, to ensure true colour, apply a small amount of Natural Cream Concealer over lips and blend really well. Dust with a little Pressed Mineral Foundation to set. Now take Royalty Red Lip Liner and outline lips. Then fill them in completely. Take your chosen lipstick colour. My faves are Mineralogie’s Woodberry (for a true burgundy), Cloudberry (for a gorgeous hint of berry), or Port (for the most daring, deepest burgundy). Using a lip brush apply 2 coats, making sure to blot with a tissue in between to ensure extra staying power and a matte finish that works best with this look. And you’re good to go!
